Albesti Roma Community

A new learning skills program will help the young teenagers develop new skills they can use to improve their lives.

Situated alongside one of Romania’s most popular tourist cities the poor Roma community of Albesti is home to over 170 children. Most of these children do not attend school and as a result see no future other than living the same way as their parents.

A number of organisations have worked within Albesti with most adopting the policy of simply giving out items or clothing to the community. Although this provides a quick fix it helps very little in the long term as it fails to build confidence in the children of the community to become independent.

Love Light Romania have took a different approach and implemented a skills program where the teenagers will be able to learn real world skills that they can use within their community to improve their lives. Although in the early stages the teenagers have already began learning skills such as cooking, building and crop farming.
